Hey everyone, there are two important events coming up in the next few days:

1) TOMORROW NIGHT @ MCCABE’S 8PM-10PM:

CMESA Alum Connections event – Come out to expand your network by meeting past CMESA alumni, and come out to chat with us about job opportunities for next year. Drinks and other refreshments will be served.

2) TUESDAY 31ST @ MACK 116 4:30PM – 6:30PM:

CME Student Townhall – For those of you who attended last year, you will know that this is your opportunity to speak directly with the Dean (Sylvain Charlebois) about your experience as a CME student. Sylvain is very involved and interested in hearing the student perspective on our commerce program. Have suggestions? Concerns or complaints? Ideas about new courses or opportunities? Tuesday is your chance to share your ideas.

Guelph does JDCC!!

After a semester long of preparation and planning the CMESA in collaboration with the CME sent the very first Guelph half team delegation to JDCC, an annual business conference and competition http://jdccentral.ca/. This year the conference is hosted by Carleton University, and our Guelph crew captain by Alexis Butty and Chelsea Galoni took off bright and early this morning, Friday January 20th, 2012. We sent teams to compete in the following academic areas, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, and Human Resources. In addition we recruited a group of CME students to compete in the Social challenges, hyped up to be quite entertaining. We wish our team all the best this weekend and look forward to sending a full team delegation to next years conference.

Commerce Orientation Week

We are three weeks away from the official start to the University of Guelph’s Orientation Week 2011 !!! This is a most exciting time for the CMESA and especially for all of the incoming first year commerce students! We are very much looking forward to meeting all of the new students and reconnect with the returning students and faculty.

This year our Orientation Week Festivities include:

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5th, 2011
Commerce Meet and Greet Lunch at 12:00pm – PJ’s Lounge
The Second Annual Commerce Scavenger Hunt 2:00pm – Johnston Green

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2011
We’ve been keeping the tradition alive since 2005!The 6th Annual Commerce Cruise will be taking place on the Tuesday of Orientation week.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2011
Following the University President’s Welcome, Join us at the Campus-wide Resource Fair. All of the clubs and groups at UofG will be there for your questions and opportunities to get involved. Come out and say hi to CMESA! Location TBA!

First Year Mail-Out

Last week, the CMESA sent out our annual mail out package to first year students. We were very proud of this year’s package as it was the best one we have ever sent out. Full of tips and tricks, a message from our Dean and Associate Dean (Julia Christensen Hughes and Sylvain Charlebois, respectively) and of course the ticket order form for the COMMERCE CRUISE happening Tuesday, September 6th exclusively for first year commerce students!

We’ve already been VERY active on our new Facebook group, Guelph Commerce Class of 2015. Definitely join if you’re an incoming student!!

Spring Academic Open House

Yesterday the CMESA presented at the Spring Academic Open House for first year students who have been accepted to the B.COMM program. It was a great day! It was so good to meet so many young people who are looking forward to embarking on their university careers. I know that for those students who were still on the fence, yesterday’s events proved to them that Guelph is the place. They’ve got so much to look forward to! O-Week plans are coming along very nicely with the BOAT CRUISE planned for September the 6th – WATCH OUT FOR TICKETS!
